Title: First person
Post by: Member932 on December 02, 2010, 02:47:39 am
Hi there

This is really, really, really awsome!! fooling around for nearly 2 hours now and never crashed or did some f** up stuf!  EXCELLENT!

Just a tiny little issue though... from day 1 I was thinking I was about to leave unity3d... sadly, I realize Lumion is only ment to do movies... not first person walkthroughts, interactively.

Is there any possibility that this could be a next upgrade feature?

   Very good, so far!

Well if you mean first person walkthrough with physics on the models and exe publishing you are probably better of with Quest3D 5.

You can go to theatre mode in Lumion and play with a camera with the interface removed. Or you can make a movie put it on play and go to theatre mode for a realtime version of your movie.

We actually started out with interactivity like elevator buttons and sliding doors. We also had physics on all models...

But with Quest3D we have as biggest problem we are not targeting anyone specifically. What can quest3d do people ask: answer on a PC eerything you can think of.

With Lumion we didn't want to make that mistake. We called it the architect edition quickly for us not to loose focus. So we tested our features with real world paying projects to make sure what we build is what that audience needs. This meant a lot of stuff that we did build was removed (more disabled you can still see the CustomCam.cgr being in the install) to focus on a more pure product. Also really long ago Lumion was already 'ready' in the eyes of people who just develope and release. But at that point we took all functionality and polished untill our time was up. So re-enabling the features is not really possible since it doesn't have the same quality as the rest of Lumion.

We still know that a BIG request is interactivity and exe publoshing. But we think we should develop a Lumion brother package instead of making our message unclear again.

So Lumion is for people who want a movie/screenshot of a daylight scene with quick to place content and really quick to render movies in the best quality realtime can provide (for now).

We hope this will fit into the workflow of many people who are in the business of selling their work and need a visualisation of it. To change the need for a fast ambient occlusion render for presentation needs to Lumion which offers a lot more in less time.

Of course it is our gamble for now that there are many people who actually need this :P

So for now if you can use Lumion like it is for any of your work we still hope the price is still worth getting a copy for yourself! And if you want a different direction of Lumion wait for a brother package or if you are a developer use Quest3D 5.

Still getting a copy helps us get things done more quickly Wink

Sorry 3ddude to use your post, but open another one since the subject is the same is quite useless.

Ferry I think that develop a brother package that will have the same functions + lots of interactivity stuff will be a good idea.

Since the stongest features of Lumion are great visual impact and easy of use I think that the best choice is to give the customer the tools to customize its product, like a customizable HUD where you can add buttons that do specific actions,

- like select which camera you want to use

- select first/third person camera

- be able to change the shader or the mesh itself on an mesh

- enable/disable some visual features in order to speed up the rendering

- A Start menu

- Fly camera

- Ability to choose the quality of the rendering, so even not so powerfull graphic cards are able to run it

- .exe (installer ) and Web player (ActiveX maybe or custom one )?

A fully customizable interface is something that will require very little time, since you will add the functions you want by drag&drop into the HUD, or a list of useful scripts that are commonly used in architectural visualization, or ( better ) the ability to add your custom script ( JS or C# ), but that's more advanced, since you want this tool to be 100% artist friendly ( and I totally agree ).

I suppose that the visual impact will be the same, but with more feature than this version of Lumion ( a better camera control, scaling, and other important stuff ) and I think thay will cost a bit more than Lumion itself, but if you add useful scripts that can be used for various project I think that this can be a complete tool for Artists.

About this brother package, for now is just an idea, or you're developing it right now?

It is not hard to develop the brother package and has been on the table for quite some time. We do need to come up with the who is the exact target audience and what should we put in. It is a fine line since Quest3D 5 already will also be able to do all these things.

Well, that is a good news :)

You say that Quest3D 5 is able to do already this kind of stuff, but the engine ( Lumion I mean ) itself is developed for artists, so be able to have those scripts ( by drag&drop or whatever ) and use them with no need of programming at all is something that artists will appreciate a lot, since it will be easy and fast to use, and will match the fast workflow that you have with Lumion now.

I think that you can easily understand what people want from Lumion "advanced version" using customer feedbacks or by opening a thread where users can ask what they want, anf from there start thinking which one will be a fair solution.

I hope to have good news from you about the brother package very soon :)

Hi

Thank you for the quick response  :)

I'm just looking for some software capable of doing a simple interactive aplication to "visit" a project in first person mode, walking wherever we want, open doors or whatever.

I found in unity3d a simple software to do this in little time. Quest3D, I think is very complicated to do the same things I do in Unity, and when I saw the first clips of Lumion, I thought this was the solution.

I work in a very whell known 3d company in Portugal, and we need this kind of software. We make realistic 3d movies, so for the time being Lumion doesn't fit our demands, sadly.

Maybe for some other type of work, such as a cool movie in record time  :)

Keep up the good work though. You're in the right path.
