It would and with proper configuration it would probably even look better.

But how???? I tried to load just a small part of the model and Lumion stoped working...

You best start by giving all the details possible.

-Program to export from

-Format of mesh

-Export/Import format

-Polys/Triangles

-Single element or multi

-Materials

-Size

etc. :-)

Hello,

To see this 3D model, I am sure that there are too many polygons! Try of it reduce the number (with 3 Dmax it is possible). For this kind of 3D model, it is better whether it is of the lowpoly!

Hi grincheux,

I have ran Lumion scenes containing meshes with 4 to 8mln triangles.

They dont make Lumion faster but I didnt have any major issues either Smile

All depending on the power of your system too of course......

The problem is that I already had the model in my realtime framework which is based on quest3d but…. In order to view the model in realtime it had to be reduced. When you reduce the model you loose detail. For this movie I wanted to see the smallest parts of the model that is why I decided to go for the non reduced version. It's about 40mil poly. It took me a while to figure out the optimal pipeline for making this animation. My workstaion has an intel 980x and 24 gb of memory. In some frames a saw ram usuage at a level of 27gb – and it was done by a 3dsmax. It's not possible to load such an amount od data to Lumion right now but it will be when  x64 will be relesed. But then again since it is a GPU render will it be possible to load models like that on the GPU. Even if you would have a sli configuration based on quadro 6000 with 4 gb on one card it still would be a problem.

Why the insane polycount if you don't mind me asking?

The model is quite detailed but 40mln polys? Must be some huge iterations on the pipework etc?

Not sure on where the limits of GPU rendering are considering Lumion but again,

I have made some very heavy scenes (with optimized models though Wink) and apart from the considerable loss of fps in the viewport,

which is to be expected, I have yet to meet something Lumion really refuses to render (in frame sequence mode btw.)

Lumion can't perform miracles and sooner or later you will run out of 32bit space sure.

But in this case I do think if you optimize the model (I don't see why you'd loose detail unless I'm missing something?) you'll be able to render it out

perfectly fine at very good quality.

Alternative option:

If you want to focus on the high detail then cut the model up into multiple chunks.

Render out a sequence with a high detail chunk and keep the rest of the model at a optimized level.

Repeat this proces for your entire animation and noone will ever know you cheated Smile

Also, keep in mind that it may take a while for Lumion to process a huge mesh.

Yesterday I imported a 11mln poly mesh and indeed Lumion stops responding for a while but it did complete the import.

The problem is that the model comes from CAD software such as AutoCAD ; Inventor. If you would model this stuff in 3dsmax it would have less poly. But 3dsmax is not a package for plant design. So I need to import the model to 3dsmax then optimize it; than I can start to think about animation andd exporting to diffrent software such as Lumion :

Here you have a link to fraps movie from my  RCF FrameWork

You just loose the detail and can't do anything about - it's just to complicated if you have so many objects in the frustrum view to think what is shown and and with what detail.  A good idea would be to have an occlusion culling solution connected with automatic level of detail creation, but it would had to be generated in OO after the model has been imported. Plus it's a pain in the a## to work with a model like that in realtime. I've started to work with cad models and quest3d about 4 years ago. I've made about 10 diffrent rendering piplines and the one I'm currently developing is the only one that works for me and the stuff  I need to the with the imported models. I have no idea how would lumion react after importing such a model. You need to fly through it to set the cam positiions and even with the lowest lighting settings I think it still would be a problem, becouse I tried to test it on small parts. The parts were from the link I gave you above.

Yes I know - that it stops responding... I just shut it down, becoues I didn't know how long it would take - and if it would be finished

Well it looks very cool :-)

I'm a big fan of high poly stuff but considering my games dev background,

Ive also become accustomed to making everything as low poly as I possible can without making it look that way.

Guess I'm on the other end of a CAD pipeline in that perspective allright.

It's a public secret CAD packages just suck balls when it comes to delivering optimized geometry so I can imagine thats cause for some headaches.

How much polys is such a 'small' part then approx?

Even on my 2nd workstation that comes with a 'mere' GTX460 (a basic GPU by todays standards imo) I'm still able to render out very heavy scenes and

so should you I reckon.

Just for clarity, I am talking about rendering stuff out.

Not about flying highspeed in viewport cause obviously thats not gonna fly with these amounts of detail...

A small part was I think about 4-5 mil poly - As I said I was able to import it to lumion but the task manager showed 1,1 gb on the lumion process. I've made a little test but the program froze at some point. I didn't know it would go back to active  or not. Anyway I know that they will relese a native x64 bit version and then I will try to look into the program again. Lumion is a great tool program aspaciely that they made with with quest3d. This showes how powerfull the new features are. Can't wait to see the further releses....

Its still very odd though.

Lumion handles such amount of polys with ease.

Perhaps x64 will help but you shouldn't have to wait for this.

It should also work right now.

Perhaps the devs can shed some light on this?

Hi Jacek, please forward any files you may have for testing purposes to artur *at* quest3d.com. He'll be able to give you a more substantial reply.

You will need the 64 bit version for this and the 3gb 580 gtx is going to help. Also reducing polygon count never hurts. Currently don't expect this model to run in 32 bit Lumion.

Do you have any scheduled date for the announcement of the 64bit version.

Thank you.
