Title: Interior Lighting / Night
Post by: Member36188 on June 11, 2012, 10:26:56 pm
Hi everyone!
I'm testing lighting capabilities and I'm having some trouble.

Putting a light and changing some parameters this is what i got.

As you can see the ceiling is totally dark and that is not what you get with a simple light.
Then I realized of a possible solution by adding a new light with a large cone angle at the same position and this is what i got.

The light gets through walls, and there are still arc shadows at the top.

How can I solve this?  ???

If you set the cone angle to a (sort of) "full 360 degrees", unfortunately, it will not cast shadows (which is equal to it getting through objects). It has some technical explanation I read somewhere (by Remko I think): it would b very resource intensive (or what) to cast shadows to the entire scene.

What you could do is to place a subtle light on the floor, pointing up. Make sure its intensity is much lower than that of your "real" light. This is how I managed to "fake" lights coming from fire for instance (fire is typically not something like a spot light). Certainly (and hopefully) there will be a solution for this (having "real" point lights and - for fire - even animated lighting...)

I tried nearly everything, and there are too much shadows coming from nowhere, like if you put some objects inside, without talking about the fake brightness that come from the floor light and reflects over them. Also when you open the arc light  to hide the shadows both lights get overlap generting more brightness at some points... :-[

What would you think if you saw this render with a black ceiling?

Other issue I found is when you enter a closed room during day and renderize you still can see because of the ambient brightness.

Another is that sun light doesn't reflect well on surfaces, because if a floor and a wall are made of the same material with the same config, renderizing you see an unpolluted white ceramic wall and a gray ceramic floor just in the corner union when the sunlight reflects indirectly.

I think Lumion rendering engine really really needs to get improved because lighting is over 50% of a photorealistic render.

Cheer up!

Thanks for your feedback, akspe22mam.

The developers are keenly aware of the current limitations of the reflections in Lumion.

It might be easier if you export the ceiling with a separate material, so you can adjust this independently from the walls in Lumion. Try applying a Standard material to the ceiling in Lumion and adjust the Brightness and/or Emissive slider.

Other issue I found is when you enter a closed room during day and renderize you still can see because of the ambient brightness.

Please lower the Ambient Brightness slider in the Weather -> Lighting settings.

akspe22mam-
Is the rendering you last posted made with Lumion?
If so, it's pretty nice!

hopefully, but I found it online and put it to illustrate the idea  :-D

Yes it would be nice to produce that quality of image with Lumion.
Some folks are getting close.......but we need real reflections, shadows & transparent materials to do it.
