Title: Lumion's main advantages over Artlantis?
Post by: Member1164 on May 18, 2012, 10:08:49 pm
I need to compete against an Artlantis guy, so I'm going to prepare a demo video using Lumion, showing what he can't do. Any ideas? Preferably from users of both packages.

Already in my list:
-Ocean with foam
-Plants moving with the wind
-Gazillions of trees

Hi Ecuadorian

i'm a artlantis users and more because i'm beta tester, work for team abvent and you can find some of my rendering on artlantis & graphisoft website and some marketing publication
if you need help you can ask me
I love lumion specially for movie and landscaping space but i can say artlantis is different and i use both
Artlantis rendering is better for production, use, still picture with more detailed and better realistic
the result on the glass and the light is much better with artlantis but you are reason
but for everything else, Lumion is much better. Lumion progressing with an incredible speed. And so if I had to choose I'll keep lumion
Kind regard

That's some of the best Artlantis work I've ever seen.

Now, back to topic, have you produced any animations with Artlantis?
I'm focusing specifically on animations, which is Lumion's strong point.

It's also a question of the time factor for:
- rendering 'suitable' quality images
- rendering animations
- rendering large scenes.
So if you can produce the finals sooner, then..

And, to whom the output is going to be presented to.  I would assume if it's more to clients who have been used to seeing raytraced based imagery and for high end projects, and are not concerned so much with the time factor that they do not incur themselves directly (only the cost of service), then they may opt more for Artlantis or similar from Max etc.

However, if the final output is to the more everyday joe on the street, then I would doubt they would care or perhaps even notice as much, if there's some difference in 'realism'.   Also, most likely they would prefer to see something sooner rather than later and at a more affordable cost, and that could be translated to a value also for a client who is used to raytraced imagery.

There's one other aspect you can go on, which I have wondered about and that's to do with final supplied content.  Does Lumion give you the opportunity to expand the number of views and or animaton to include more, where something like Artlantis renderings require very strict (almost prescribed) views only to be rendered, and so the end user does not get the same potential quantity as could be supplied by Lumion. (hope I'm clear on explaining here what I mean).

Unfortunately it's not possible to translate those things into a video demo.

Best of luck.
