Title: Make system order in User library
Post by: Member1514 on February 11, 2012, 10:25:32 am
Dear Lumion developers,
In Lumion1 time you can pay no attention on users' sentences to organize logical system of user object library. But now users can build interiors the same way as we can make large regions of urban or country environments. It necessitates using a quantity of special models that Lumion's library never can provide. For example, in interiors we design a definite solution of furniture style of selected producers. It is almost impossible to include that items in huge main model (that do not give possibility to edit their placement in Lumion); so users have a long list of furniture, lamps and so on that lays in user library as great number of unsorted pictures. May be can you give users possibility to put their library models in the named folders the same way as you did it for your objects? Besides it can resolve a problem of big number of anchor points on the screen that show up when anyone wants to edit any model. Thank you.

You can currently only create new Library folders manually:

Instructions:
1) Locate this folder: C:\Users\Username\Documents\LumionFree 2\Library
2) Create up to 9 folders inside the Library folder, eg, Manufacturer_1, Manufacturer_2 etc.
3) Move the imported files to the folders you created.
4) Start Lumion.
5) The folders will be displayed as numbered tabs in the "Imported object" browser window.

Thank you Morten
That information is important but it is accessed for buyers only (see your reference)

Newman, Morten just linked to the picture below.

Does this work in Lumion 1?  I haven't tested it. If it did it would be sweet and would help my approach...

Thank you Morton, but it is not exactly that i beared in mind. I believe most of users needs in hierarchic system. For example,
INTERIORS>
              furniture>
                          tables/beds/sofas etc.
              lights>
                          standart/lamp-brackets/work lamps etc.
............
BUILDINGS>............
All that can count many tens positions, so most of us needs in free system of making folders' hierarchy for different needs. We have, of course, that order in our work folders, but can not support it inside Lumion. Picture in post above demonstrates it good.

Yes, it works in Lumion 1 but you can't have more than 7 pages of imported objects in each sub-folder. I think this limitation has been removed in Lumion 2 (but I am unable to test it due to a bug).

Yes, I know what you mean.

This feature has been requested many times, but for the time being you will have to use the manual procedure described above (although this is currently not working correctly due to a bug in Lumion 2.1).

ty   :)

That is awesome.  Had no idea.
So I can conceivably save 1764 custom models to use at any time I need to populate scenes.

Also I can save these folders as a back up in case my computer melts down and have them all ready to go for the future should I need to install Lumion on a different computer?

These folders will all be useable for future versions of Lumion?
Would hurt if I spent all that time getting models set up in Lumion then decided to upgrade and all that work is turned into wasted days.

Yes, copying your sub-folders to the Library folder of Lumion 2 will also work (well, as soon as the bug has been fixed).

In Lumion 1, the maximum page count per sub-folder is only 7 though, so there's room for 7 x 28 models in each folder. The 7-page limit has however been increased in Lumion 2.

Also bear in mind that only 1 sub-folder level is supported, ie, Library/YourFolder1, but not Library/YourFolder1/YourFolder2, and lastly, remember to restart it after moving/renaming/adding folders.

oh.. ok

So 196 custom models can be saved and used at any one time per active session.

Conceivably more than that can be saved - will just require some switching around of folders to activate saved files should they need to become accessible.

Thanks Morten for the expansion on the explanation.

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well. I've edited my previous post, so that there should be less room for misunderstandings.

You can add multiple sub-folders to the Library folder, and each folder can contain 7 x 28 models, eg:

Library/Furniture (Can contain up to 7 x 28 models in Lumion 1)
Library/Plants (Can contain up to 7 x 28 models in Lumion 1)

Much better.  This is supremely helpful.
This is an awesome tip.
