hello,
The best graphics card for Lumion is GTX 580
I would like to know if the graphics card gtx 580 runs well on sketchup (350/450 MB files), Photoshop (150MB to 1GB files) and autocad 2D?
does anyone use this software in addition to lumion.
if I buy the gtx 580 is what I have to take the version 1.5GB or 3GB
Thank you for your answers ;)
-
If you want a card that will outperform GTX 580 in AutoCAD: you will pay a lot more and you will have problems in Lumion and other software.
I have 1.5 GB and I did not have any problems yet even for huge scenes.
-
Ok,
I use autocad for plans and sections.
You use the gtx 580 for sketchup and photoshop?
-
I use it with a lot of 3D programs but not Sketchup. Photoshop is not a critical program to choose a card for.
-
Thank you for your answers. ;)
I hope someone will answer this topyc for sketchup.
Can you give me the weight of your files lumion? just to get an idea
-
You may check my channel for sample scenes: http://www.youtube.com/byzantium1200 (http://www.youtube.com/byzantium1200) . The largest one is the port.

wouahhhouu it's great ....
great job

Thanks IP_jeanlo. Lumion is really great...
-
Just to add, not SketchUP related, but if you are going to invest in a 580, for the extra $'s it would seem worthwhile getting the 3GB, that way you are better covered for larger scenes and future proofed a little more.
-
@byzantium1200
wow, you sure know how to produce an atmosphere / mood !
-
I think take the gtx 580 1.5GB hoping to have less problems with the Quadro 4000.
it seems that there is not much difference between 3GB and 1.5GB.
when lumion accept SLI, I will take a second card.
I will take the N580GTX Twin Frozr II OC (MSI)

You can not go wrong with GTX 580. I replaced an HD 6870 and I am very happy with it (never think about ATI again). Don't forget to check your power supply as nothing makes it shout more than Lumion.
-
I keep a bad memory for graphics cards AMD Radeon HD ...
I'll stay on the gtx but thank you for your video ...
I have a power supply of 750 watts
-
What's supposed to be wrong with quadro 4000, i own one and no problem so far.
Sacha
-
for small projects, I have no problem.
but when I work on large surfaces and I integrate many objects in lumion, my pc works in slow motion.
Then when I put the camera high in the sky to see all of my project, I can not see the trees, water and more objets.

Sacha .... sacha you work on what kind of project?
my config pc:
-processor i7 950
-graphic card quadro 4000
-mother board asus p6x58d-e
-memory 12go ddr3
-power: 750W
-
Hi, we have all graphic cards related above and after tested hardly, GTX 580 is the best one for lumion, we use a Gainward GTX 580 Phantom 3Gb.
For Acad and Sketchup Quadro cards are more accurate, we use Quadro 4000 2Gb and Quadro 5000N 2Gb.
-
I have some projects on sketchup with a weight of 450mo
is that the gtx 580 will cause problems in sketchup for this type of file? :-\

The Quadro 4000 card is a bit slow if you're working with very detailed scenes in Lumion. Compare the PassMark score with the GTX 580 to see what you're missing out on :)

There's more information about graphics card requirements in this thread:
http://lumion3d.com/forum/index.php?topic=2548.0 (http://lumion3d.com/forum/index.php?topic=2548.0)
If you want to keep your Quadro 4000, there's a number of things you can do to get achieve better performance in Lumion:
1) Use Layers: Familiarise yourself with the Layer functionality in Lumion, so that you can show/hide models. There's more information about this in the Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts thread:
http://lumion3d.com/forum/index.php?topic=2548.0 (http://lumion3d.com/forum/index.php?topic=2548.0)
2) Editor quality: Set the Editor quality to 1 star while you're editing scenes. This function is available in the Settings menu, or you can press F1/F2/F3/F4 for 1/2/3/4 star quality.
3) Editor resolution: Use a smaller window for Lumion or change the resolution in Settings -> 75%/50%/25%.
About the disappearing objects you mentioned, trees and plants will disappear in the distance in Build mode, but this is on purpose to reduce their performance impact. You can however display all trees/plants in your scene at their highest level of detail if you press F9. This is also explained in the Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts thread:
http://lumion3d.com/forum/index.php?topic=2759.0 (http://lumion3d.com/forum/index.php?topic=2759.0)
To prevent the other objects from flickering/disappearing when you move the camera far away, add Scene Effects -> Camera Clip Planes effect to the clip, and adjust the Near plane slider until the flickering is gone. You can also animate the Near plane if necessary by clicking on the small circular button to the right of the slider to set a keyframe.

Thank you for the information Morten ;)
I already use layers on large projects.
I will test the resolution editor ...... and the effect of camera
Change the graphics card is not a problem for me but I would really like to know if the gtx580 1.5GB runs well on sketchup (file 350/450mo) and that I can not find on google.

Yes, it's definitely best to test it beforehand.
Perhaps one of the guys with a GTX 580 could test your scene in SketchUp (bearing in mind that differences in system RAM/CPU etc will influence the result)?
-
ok,
So I ask "is there someone who can open my sketchup files with your computer?"
I put the download file. rar

you're welcome morten! ;)
Download is very slow (2 hours left) but it's the freeDL fault (i have cable FAI with very good dowload rate) have to be patient IP_jeanlo ::)
-
Patience is in me .... :-D
thank you for your help and thank you to the staff of lumion ...
-
CRC problem while unzipping archive :-\
I download it again.... fortunately patience is in you lol
-
I find SkUp really slow with just one building model of about 2 to 6 MB, generally in load and it applying materials to the model, but I think its the CPU (quad core 6600) rather than the GPU (GTX 560 2MB) as same in Max is way faster.
-
Gilles Gass,
I watched the phantom 3GB .... is that it runs well? you use it to sketchup, photoshop, autocad?
your power supply is xombien watts?
It's good for the download file?
Thank you in advance.
-

arf... Download rate 3,3mo/s.... file downloaded in just 2 minutes :-D
-
well I open your file in 1 minute ... I can give myself feeling sick by moving the scene ...
everything is fluid ...
In fact I am not a user of sketchup but archicad ... I use SU for conversion of certain format and connection with google earth.
My config:
MB: Asus sabertooth P67
Core i7 2600K OC @ 4,2gHz
8Go Ram
SSD OCZ Vertex 2 120
Alim Corsair Gold 750W
Gainward Phantom GTX580 3Go
PS 1: I don't really understand why your file is so heavy... probably the google earth photo ?!
PS 2: Without testing i would have been able to tell you that GTX580 "rocks" :P
-
ok ....
for me too, the file opens in 1 minute (see less)
Yes, the file size is the image
I don't understand when you say "GTX580" rocks "? is the best?
your config is better.
thank you for taking your time to test the file .... ;)
yet one more question ....
in addition to using the gtx 580 for ArchiCAD, SketchUp lumion .... you use it with other programs?
-
I don't understand when you say "GTX580" rocks "? is the best?
La gtx 580 déchire tout, c'est une vrai bombe :-D
in addition to using the gtx 580 for ArchiCAD, SketchUp lumion .... you use it with other programs?
ArcGis , Archiwizard, artlantis, photoshop, illustrator.... But it works also very well with word and excel lol :-P
-
I was not sure that the card runs well on Word and Excel .... :-D
I thought about before to buy it ....
if you say you use this card for these programs and there is no problem of crash .... I will not hesitate long.
I will put the video'project in the forum when it is completed
Good night .... ;)
-
does somebody know what is the difference between these two:
Single 3GB GDDR5 EVGA GTX 580 CLASSIFIED.....$517.00
Single 3GB GDDR5 Nvidia GTX 580....... $493.00
I do not know which one of the two I should buy???? |:(
thanks for the help!!!
-
Hey,
I dont find The nvidia gtx 580 3go....
I look at the forums for a few days and for me the best is the Gainward card 3GB phantom.
it does not heat up and is silent.
-
"Single 3GB GDDR5 Nvidia GTX 580" is a generic card with the reference design...
EVGA, Asus, gainward ... add their gpu fan over-clock the ram or the gpu....

Thanks Gga Mars, so you suggest EVGA... What does overclocking ram or gpu means, sorry for this questions but i am not a tech savy.i just want to make a wise desicion!! Thanks

Hey jordan !
Don't take care about that... buy a gtx580 3go ... every model will be excellent for lumion...
Some of 580gtx from constructor may be quieter than the cheapest or are able to be over-clocked with some gain (about 15 to 20 % in crysis by example) but you'll need to tweak a little ...
forget that ;) i can overclock my phantom with the gainward software, but I don't do it... for the instant it's not very useful ( hum except for a huge project by night with tons of lights...)
bye :-D

Hey Gga_Mars, thank you for your response but still not clear what is ram & gpu overclocking??
-
Hi,
by increasing the frequency of ram or gpu with a dedicated software, it allows you to make that your Video-card runs faster.....
Is it clear now ? :-D
