Title: About adding more than one graghpic card
Post by: Member4975 on December 09, 2011, 04:16:58 pm
Hi I have question...
does Lumion support  more than one graphic card ,I mean now in my PC I have
eVGA GeForce GTX 580 Graphics card - 1.5 GB - GDDR5 SDRAM

and we got about 4.5 S per frame for rendering..
if I build a machine with more than one grapghic card is that help to make Lumion render faster it should be??

how many graphic card could I use""some of mother board support up to 4 VGA card""??
What I really should do to reduce rendering time and what is the best VGA card working with Lumion so far
thanks

You can get the 580 in a 3gb version...that would be your best option.  Fastest single core out there i think...i believe the 590 is multi-core, but you can check the website.

580 is the fastest single GPU for lumion, quadro sucks in lumion (price perf rate)  :P
That's right Brian 590 is bi GPU and 580 3Go is the best investment actually for Lumion

yep. i spec'd the gtx580, 3gb in my Lumion machine. Been working great. very happy.

bob

here it is. Made the order.

Researched custom build shops like ava, alienware, falcon northwest, cyberpower, etc.
ended up choosing ORIGIN PC based on the reviews i found. They are a newer company that formed from 3 ex-Alienware execs.

We were getting down to crunch time and none of us here are hardware gurus but i think this will meet our needs for LUMION.

very good sales experience with ORIGIN PC. very helpful. sounds good so far...

i went with the 3gb gtx 580 graphics card because it is the most powerful single core card right now and LUMION only uses one core...or something like that  ;) as mentioned above

let me know if u know anything different though. please feel free to scrutinize. i really enjoy learning the details when i can.
8-10 days to build, 4 days to ship from florida.

...How could get the best result using Lumion and reduce time rendering ..

Getting the best and fastest system and GPU will always help of course but not ncessarily get massive gains.

If the company can afford it, there is of course another way to massively reduce your rendering time, in half or more.  It's still a work around to having a batch master-slave rendering system and of course costs but that depends on what upgrade route you need to take with existing equipment and reosurces.

Get a second or more PC (start your own little render farm :)).  Once the final version is ready, copy the files across to the other PC, render half the clips in one and the other half in the other. Has to be by clip although I guess it could also be feasible to actually split the render scene into clip sequences for each machine. A bit of mucking around.  Would be nice in Lumion to have a clip rendering sequence specifier so you can say render me just clips x to y.

Of course you will also need further Lumion licenses but if render time is money then perhaps this somewhat silly  :+ option is viable.  One or two jobs could pay for the additionals, maybe.

You can select the clip you would like to render, and click the little icon on the top left (looks like the device they use for scene timing).  There will be only two icons that come up, a trash can and the other...click the other ;)  This will allow you to render each specific clip...would be nice to render a series though. :-D
