Title: Lumion3D vs Artlantis Studio 3
Post by: Member10431 on October 12, 2011, 11:02:58 am
Hi,

I really like to compare software. How does Lumion3D compare to Artlantis Studio.
I don't like basting, i just want to compare.

Any info would be nice.

Can anyone find the Gallery on TM's website?  $3000 for a license?  Geeez
Tell me how the video's look?   Hard to find any in abundance?  I wonder where they hide them?

Instead of showcasing the product TM interviews starchitects who don't know how to use computers themselves beyond sending an email or using a mac which does it all for them.  Do people really think EOM or Zaha sit down on a computer and bang these beautiful organic/parametric building shapes out themselves  (or do they? ) - then render them in software?  LOL.
 - like this is supposed to make those who actually do know how to use computers and graphic software buy their TM software?  Riiiight  - Architects that are good at the software they use know darn well that the famous architects really could care less about how the software works or how to use it....they just want it done - that is it.
Taking a starchitects advice to buy software would be unwise (course they hardly endorse TM).
It is like believing that the owner's of any giant general public retail outlet/store actually shop there for their own clothes.  Yeah right...

Artlantis:  You can look at videos on their website to get a good idea of the quality of Artlantis vs. Lumion.  Artlantis looks like the VUE rendering engine, or Carrara3D (run!!).  I'd say something that would take you a day to do in Lumion will take you 3 or more in Artlantis.  Artlantis has more accurate reflections, animated textures and some lighting. Radiosity - photon bounces and reflection calculations (this is why the rendering time for that software is SLOW) - but that is the trade off for lower quality in everything else.  Artlantis does not have LOD Speedtree - so you certainly can not have as much plant material in Artlantis as one does in Lumion under the same computer specs.  I'd bet Artlantis would choke (freeze up) on the scenes that Lumion can output under the same computer specs.

Lumion developers are working on getting us the biggies - (reflections and lighting) - keep your fingers crossed that they can be the first to come up with the solution that works.
Then - Lumion will/can Dominate.

Until then we have a choice - Speed and high quality renders and live environment with the ability to use a massive amount of vegetation without lights and reflections or much Slower and more accurate reflection and light render engines without true real-time environment and less vegetation (some have better quality outputs than others).   Clients like both equally.  So.....

Build Mode in Lumion is SO much fun to play in after you labor over a model.  Super Cool.   :D
Nobody can match that.

Who else do you want Lumion designed for Daz?
What else do you see it useful for that it can't do?
Who else would want to use it that can't now?
Besides the reflections and lights (not stoked about that either - takes architectural tools away)

Amazing video -   Youtube vs. Vimeo

Play them at the same time for a Remix.

BIM/Rhino? + scripts + VRay + Render Farm + (accessories) + 64+G RAM (heavy model)
It takes serious $$$ to build a model like this.

Hi Daz,
You didn't answer the questions   :D

I'll answer yours best I can.
"have to tried to create a NON-architectural render in Lumion ?"
Such as what?  I'm sure you could use Lumion for backdrops/backgrounds

for something like this
HungryBeast Titles 2011 (http://vimeo.com/25130402)
There are other ideas about how Lumion can be used outside of architectural
Just have to be creative and think of it as part of one's toolbox.
One does not always use a pencil for drawing.

Can an animation be imported into Lumion to do something like this?
F L U X (http://vimeo.com/15395471)
maybe - no way. yes? possible?

yes your right

i think the HungryBeast Titles 2011 is a definite possibility ...INFACT i think they did use lumion , with the white background workaround.

Hahahaha  I loled SO HARD!

i work in cinema...and im searching the way to export mograph to bring into lumion...

but i is very difficult...

i try to make a 3D stroke, with a simple spline and sweep nurbs... make the animation.done.
i try to export that animation with fbx and animation check in box....

and open later in lumion (import model), and i just get FREEZE sweep nurbs....
that is because cinema for each frame is making a new polygons to make sweep nurbs growth effects... and fbx or dae..cant handle complexing mographs maths...etc....

the only solution i found is a plugin call Skinprops RiptidePro . whit this i can export each frame in OBJ to get the entire animation of sweep nurbs ....but..the resulta is 300 files in obj extension...( if my animation is set to 300 frames)...

the question is....can i mergue in one obj animation?

im gonna eep searching the way to export mograph animation to bring in lumion :)

i think a animated flag is more easy....or not?

PD:sorry for my bad english :(

At the moment, Lumion Free can only import transformation animations, ie, move/rotate/scale.

Lumion also uses socalled "point cache" animations for vertex animation, but importing these is currently only possible in our in-house developer version of Lumion.
