Title: Unhelpful Error Message
Post by: Member1384 on December 07, 2010, 06:01:52 pm
I have installed Lumion on Win7 x64 and, when run, I get the following on-screen Error Message:

"B973720E-2CC1-4F5C-A35A-33A152E2453E.dll"

Hardly the most helpful of Error Messages, but any clues/hints would be appreciated.

TIA.

It is the name of a dll we use in Quest3D that failed to load. It is the direct input channel. Are you sure it is the only error you got? Any idea why direct input doesn't work on your system?

That makes sense - I originally had an error regarding DINPUT8.DLL, but I resolved that.

After this error message I only have the option to press OK, after which the program crashes out with a Windows "Close or Debug" option.

As for why it doesn't work, I have no idea - unless it's something specific to a laptop, e.g. the Synaptic pad?

It's not helpful but then again I can't think of an error message that would help you to fix it. As Ferry said it's an error indicating it can't load the input system. The reason why it can't load the input system is usually a conflicting DLL(rare) or a missing DLL(also rare).

My guess is that your resolved the DINPUT8 problem in a way that did not really solve the problem. What was the original DINPUT8 error message? If you get an error it misses Dinput8.dll you can't simply download the dll. This error indicates DirectInput does not work so you have to install DirectX or something like that.

What's the system you are using? Does DirectInput work in other applications? Do you even have DirectX?

The original message was that DINPUT8.DLL was missing.

I have already tried re-installing DirectX several times, running DXDiag (no problems reported), disconnecting all external inputs, etc

I resolved that problem by manually re-registering the DLL.

Ah so there's your problem. Manually fixing a DirectInput DDL is not really a good idea. Re-installing was a good Idea but it's strange that it did not install properly. Can you use system restore to revert all the changes you made and run any of these demo's to see if DirectInput works? http://www.quest3d.com/index.php?id=15

Manually registering a DLL is a technique we use regularly in the IT Support field.

I have also resolved the DInput8 error simply by running Lumion in Compatibility Mode, but Lumion is supposed to be Win-7 compatible :/

However, it still didn't help with the Channel error which appears in all instances.

I'll pass on Lumion.

 Thx anyway.
