Good morning...
One client of mine, has hired me for a job with a huge industrial plant and i´m afraid about the amount of memory i´ll have to use to acomplish that...it´s over 150 acres of buildings, pipes, sidewalkes, reservatories, etc...
My current video card is a GTX 590 with 3gb of memory, but as i heard, lumion will use only 1,5gb of it, and i´m afraid i will not have enought memory to render that amount of mesh...
I saw at my hardware dealer, a quadro fx 6000 video card with 6 gb of memory...will it work with Lumion?
I understand that this kind of board is no exactly ideal for Lumion, but have 4 time more memory...will i be able to use it (all that memory)?
Thanks guys

From what I understand, the best GPU for Lumion at the moment is the Gainward GTX580 3 gig. It has one 3 gig RAM module as opposed to the 2 x 1.5 gig modules of the 590. Also it is much less expensive than the Quadro FX6000.

It is a possibilty...but, i dont know if 3 gbs is enough... ???
besides that, the quadro card will be very usefull in 3dmax...
thanks for the interest

Well...all I can say is if you need more than 3GB on your card to pull off this movie...I can't wait to see it! :)

That is the problem guys...the work is huge...i dont know exactly how much memory it will require...
I´m just thinking in advance to avoid problems, when the render time comes...
I know it maybe sounds like an exageration, but they are 3 huge industrial plants (a lot of pipe lines, external machines, and such...), from the same company, and they required to show all the 3 factorys in the same movie...
Maybe 3gb is enough...but i dont want to discover that something is wrong, at the last minute...
And for consideration, i have already two machines running GTX´s cards (1#590 and 1#580)...im thinking, maybe it´s time to invest in something different for a change...
my only doubt is if it would work nicely in Lumion...
but thx anyway for your considerations...

6GB is pretty cool stuff to have on your GPU.
Keep in mind though that with only 1/3rd of the bandwith of a 590,
paired with roughly the performance of a 470-480,
that FX6000 might turn out to dissapoint bigtime.
Why not go for a 580-3GB 1st,
then, if it turns out even that card cant handle your scene,
you can always go for the FX6000 as some kind of last resort?
I can't judge just how rigid the 'show all stuff in one scene' criterium is
but I'd also recommend finding out if the client can give you some sketch-ideas
on how they want things presented so you can see if you can
make possible shortcuts in Lumion via hiding layers etc.
This would save you the need for a lot of excess resources.
Just my 2cts. Good luck in deciding wisely! :)

this month MSI makes one new gtx580 Lightning with 3GB ram also. Some point to consider this version is equip with 2 bigger fans and still get 2 slots form factor; the fans can change color with temperature from Blue to White. The prices' set to $600 in newegg.
580 3GB is the way to go before test with Quadro. :-D
