Title: Best format for video postproduction in editing software...
Post by: Member2628 on June 15, 2011, 12:53:42 am
Hello,

it's a bit urgent for me, 2 days left before my deadline!

I'm editing the video in premiere pro.

wich output format i have to select to match perfectly with lumion video?

NTSC - 1080p - 29.97 i/s

codec H264 or MPEG4 or other codec?

wich one i have to choose  ???

i have some anoying lags at the begining of my video (i have a professional workstation so i'm normaly able to play full hd video perfectly smoothly). and it's not the first time with lumion movies

Thanks
Djé

H264 HDTV 1920x1080 29.97 fps is your best bet  ;)

To reduce startlag, try lowering your minimum bitrate to 5Mbps and max 10Mbps.
Also, if you can, set keyframe distance at 30.

autoresolved!

the lags disapperared :)

if it can help others here are the good settings i found to play it smoothly...

codec MPEG2

i have 4min 47 sec of video

in 1080p  h264 the file size is  1.06Go with lags

in 1080p MPEG2 the file size is  542Mo without lags

but the video looks like more precise in h264 (better resolution). that's my feeling...

MPEG2 is a rather obsolete compression format.
Try lowering the bitrate in your H264 output options. It should produce better quality then MPEG2.
Nice you got it sorted btw, even if old or whatever, if it works its good right? :-)

Thanks Aaron!

I'll try as soon as lumion let me use my computer  |:(

I have no time for fails and I can't loose this consumer so I have to do it as good as possible...

I have a big complain and it is my wish for christmas!!! I would like to be able to have a list to choose the scene i want to render and I would like to be able to put some other scene (not all) in queue. By this way lumion can render the scene one by one from hitself...

For now it's impossible! The result is that I have no time, I have some scene to correct, it's the night and I have to wake up every hours to launch renders one by one to be in time  >:( :( >:(
(27hours of render time in total so it's the 3rd consecutive day I don't sleep because of lumion)

I also have some shadows bug in my scene... When you make a traveling with more than 1 scene BE CAREFULL! Never touch the sun settings or your render will be loose! The shadows will moves in transitions between scene and the light will be different... Maybe lumion staff could help to resolve it by putting a sun interface like sketchup where you can choose the exact date and hour to be able to restore your light settings...

Now imagine what your life would be like without Lumion, the same animation would be two weeks with Vue and the same render line up issue. Lumion is a God send, made animation possible now in a shorter period and an acceptable quality, just created a whole new market that before required too much hardware and time to be feasible as a service.

No doubt, lumion does great works!

I just highlight that there are still some simple practical functions missing in lumion who can help to still accelerate the movie creations...

It was not agressive, i'm just soo tired for now  :-\ 3h00 PM, see ya in 1 hour ;)

This "batch rendering" of the clips (separately, not as a whole movie) is already on the wish list. Indeed it would be awesome and hopefully not something very hard to program.

Now the "order" of the renders can easily be adjusted since you can modify the order of the individual clips already; just drag and drop them on the movie time line. If batch rendering were possible, you could simply pull then in your preferred rendering order and go to sleep.

I agree, an AfterFX-like render queue would be very useful - especially when there's tight deadlines.

I really hope you make it in time, Dje!

I agree with everything here. Lumion needs (Haven't tried SP2 so I don't know if some have been implemented):
-A way to "check" and "uncheck" which scenes to render.
-Render each scene to a separate mp4 file (Or separate folders if you choose image sequence)
-A "Stop Render" button.
-Scenes without sun position effects should stick to what you set in Build Mode
-More intuitive sun positioning
-DX11 for way faster rendering. Come on, if you can afford Lumion, you can afford the hardware upgrade.

Besides that, i proposed to Ferry a Lumion Render Only version.
Whitch would be like a batch render, where you can make a Lumion render farm with different pc.
Would be a "cheap" licence what only would allow to render setup batches, no editing at all.

Mmm... I don't know. If they release a "render node" license then they would have no interest whatsoever in making the engine faster by adopting DX11, as that would be against their interests.

I prefer rendering faster in a single computer.

You are right Aaron! Big big thanks!

I reduced the bitrate as you sayed and it works great. :-D

Bitrate between 5 and 10 is a litle bit too low but I'll adjust the settings... (i finaly choosed min 10 max 20 => 340Mo)
