Title: Funny joke
Post by: Member2980 on June 13, 2011, 05:40:49 pm
Want to hear something funny?  I spent two days downloading the new 64 bit version, installing and uninstalling and rebooting and installing and rebooting and uninstalling and reinstalling it.  It didn't work.  I sent an email to Lumion and the email came back, they had the wrong email address in their email.  I got the right address and sent them and email with a screen shot of my problem.  No response.  I then sifted through 3,700 posts on this forum and found someone with the same problem and Lumion told him that the 64 bit version doesn't work and they knew that when they sent it out.

Now that, is funny.

First of all, I think we can all agree that the launch of Service Pack 2 has not been without glitches, for example the problems with the 64-bit version and the fact that some users were unable to activate Lumion. [...] It's been frustating for us as well that this didn't go as planned, and on behalf of the Lumion team, please accept our apologies. To put it bluntly, this blows and we want to do better next time!

The link to the 64-bit version was removed as soon as Arthur was informed about the problem, and you were advised to download the 32-bit version until further notice. Two days ago we posted an unofficial patch, so that people who still preferred to use the 64-bit version could give it a spin.

The problems that the patch addressed were as follow:

Today, Arthur has also fixed an issue that made it impossible for a minority of Windows and Mac/Bootcamp to activate both Lumion 1 SP2 32-bit and 64-bit.

About 1 hour ago he finished compiling fresh installers of the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version that include all bug fixes, and I'm currently downloading them for internal testing.

If both versions work as expected, the download links will be made public tomorrow morning (CET).

If your problem has not been addressed above, please PM me via the forum messaging system or email me directly (I've provided my email address in several posts, including in my reply to the post where you are complaining about the new pricing policy).

Thanks! :)

Hey,

Yeah...I think you probably saw my post. I was so eager to use the SP2 until I downloaded the 64 bit version just before they took it down.....Since I didn't know it didn't work, I spent over an hour downloading and the rest of the day trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.

But it all got resolved once I went back and got the 32 bit working.

Sorry I complained.  Just a little frustrated is all.

Hey, no hard feelings. I can easily picture that situation, downloading, installing, checking if it works, uninstalling... rinse and repeat - there's nothing more frustrating :(

Service Pack 2 was really tricky to test since so much had to be changed, not just in Lumion itself but the entire backend, e.g. replacing the USB key with an online activation system, setting up a new account system for users, implementing the new credit system, adding e-payment for credit packs and so on. If just one link in the chain didn't work perfectly on the day of the switchover, the whole thing would fall apart.

We will up our game and make sure everything is tested more thoroughly next time.

We are looking for an installer which can do the downloading and patching for you.
