QUESTION
What settings are used for Auto in the rendering settings?

ANSWER
When you render a Clip (via Create Movie From Clip) or Movie (Save Movie), a render settings window will open for you to select one or more options.

Each window (MP4 Tab, Images Tab, Single Tab) will show settings either as Auto, or a specific setting you have selected.

AUTO Settings:
Each setting as shown below are the default settings if you select Auto.

MP4 tab:
Final Output Quality: 3 Star
Frames per Second: 30
Choose Resolution: 720p

Images tab:
Final Output Quality: 3 Star
Frames per Second: 30
Choose Resolution: 720p
Custom Output: No custom map types are selected for the Auto setting.
Frame Range: All.

Single tab:
Custom Output: No custom map types are selected for the Auto settings.
Custom Resolution: Desktop

Saving/retaining settings
The settings you chose the last time you selected an option will be used the next time you use Create Movie From Clip or Save Movie. Those settings are not saved with the Scene. They are saved at the end of each Lumion session when you close down.  So next time you run Lumion, the settings you chose the last time you used Lumion will be used this time round.
