Hi  Aaron,
Can you please tell me how to popullate trees in lumion. Thank you im advanced for yoir help. Thanks!!

. I was looking at your page in vimeo an came across with this amazing video of yours:

Speedtree forrestpatches

is there an option in lumion to populate that many trees into the entire 5kmx5km grid. what is the atmophere setting that you are using in that scene? is there a way to change the sky effect in lumion?
 (ie
Beach Party

and
Speedtree forrestpatches

)

really cool stuff.

great videos by the way... very inspirational!!!

regards

Hi Jordan,

Have a look here:
http://lumion3d.com/forum/index.php?topic=1253.105

Download the Speedtree forrest patch objects (as attached in my last post there)
and install them in your Lumion folder.
Start Lumion and they should show up in your Speedtree assets list.
It's relatively easy to then populate the entire grid with these patches.
Probably best to not run them at full LOD (F9) while doing so though  :D

As for changing the sky look, the possibilities are endless.
Iirc all I did was make the clouds darker and tune down the Sun brightness a bit.

Hope this helps!

Aaron's trees/plants are part of the Trees & Plants plugin which is available for Lumion Basic and Ultimate customers only. Although the forest patch objects are not yet officially included in the collection, Aaron has kindly agreed to share them with licensed users.

The patches shown in the feature vid. were experimental.
They are now outdated.
Good news is I made a whole lot more and everyone will get them.

Good news is I made a whole lot more and everyone will get them.

Everyone like even demo licensed users?  :-9

I really need to get, if its usefull to buy lumion, couse its not that cheap, but for my projects i need to use a lot of trees and work with imported terrain (i got already its not like native lumion terrain) so want to try that much. Share it please, if that is possible. Thanks in advance.

I also had a strange idea when i first met this tree problem, its mostly a question to lumion team. All the lumion objects are actually a dot(xyz) with specific props and name in model space. May be its posseble to create that kind of dots outside lumion (like 3d max scatter) and with some plugin that would attach model to the dot, import it to lumion. Well that sounds easy for me im sure its hell difficult. But it would also work cool with cars animation (like attaching car model to a moving imported dot)

Want to make small explanation. I work in a company of road desing and transport network countings. So mostly i need to have more then 3000 trees in project so planting them 1 by one would make me crazy ^^ and also its usually more then 300 cars in one scene so making that manually is also hell difficult (there is special software that makes animation from network counting programs).

In all other sensel lumion looks really great  8)  for architectural work its already seems ready.

Hi Hampijke, it's unfortunately not possible to replace dummy objects such as your 'dots' in Lumion with trees (although it has previously been requested by other users).

In other words, if the trees need to be in specific positions as defined by your 3D modelling application, there is no other option but to place them manually at the correct positions in Lumion.

However, if a certain amount of randomness is allowed, please check out the Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts thread which describes several ways to place models randomly:

Place object mode -> (CTRL) + Left-click: Randomly place 10 copies of the currently active object library model.
Place object mode -> (Z) + Left-click: Place a new object with +/-0 to 50% random scale.
(Escape): This "advanced" move mode lets you move objects by clicking directly on them and dragging the mouse to move them. In addition, (H) lets you move objects up and down while (R) allows you to rotate them.

Hallo,  Morten
thank you much for fast answer

So i guess you mean this one. Well it would make still a lot of hand work sure, but its only working with lumion terrain doesnt it? But in most projects i have a quite good terrain mesh (interpolated from SRTM for example or sometimes even better ones) and sure i can even get a heightmap from them (and i tryed its much then work in correcting the actual scale, didnt find any real manual for that on forum only some pieces everywhere) but even then i get to the 2048x2048 limit  |:(  (i surely prefer mesh for its quality) so again i cant put trees like this random 10 way.
When i buy lumion will i get any solution for that? I got you have a closed forum for ones who buy the soft. May be any patches or some models with 10-100 trees in one.
Can i solve it somehow with speetree?(so like i will need o buy it too then?) I mean in really interested in lumion, but this thing stops me from beginning.

Hello again, Hampijke.

Unfortunately, the random placement functions do not work as expected with imported terrain meshes - the randomised models will always be placed on the native Lumion terrain. The problem occurs in all versions of Lumion and the issue has previously been raised by other users, so let's hope that the developers of Lumion will be able to resolve this problem one day.
