Rendering a movie in 2-star quality with the Smooth Edges effect is a good alternative to 3-star rendering, if you are in a hurry. It will get rid of most aliasing artifacts but not all of them.
When you render a movie in 3-star quality it renders 16 individual images per frame which are then averaged to create images with virtually no aliasing.
Whether you need 2- or 3-star quality depends a bit on the project you're working on. But for optimal quality, I'd still pick 3-star quality, even though it takes longer to render movies.
