Rendering Stops after computer locks up.

Hello all,

I'm just wondering if you guys had the same problem i'm in right now. I've been trying to render (video/static) out but my video rendering require about 3+ hour to finish and my computer locks up (taking me to windows login screen). Is it true that the rendering process should not stop when the computer goes to sleep and locked? Our IT said it should not stop the process and It could be a bug on the lumion aps. Please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi EagleOne, Lumion uses the graphics card to render images, so it will only render for as long as the Lumion window is active/in focus.

If your screensaver starts, or if Windows goes to sleep or is locked Lumion will stop rendering. Check the Power Options in Windows to make sure that this doesn't happen while it's rendering:

Power options -> Change plan settings -> Put the computer to sleep -> Never

Thank you Morten! The company has this policy about the screensaver and so it's controlled via network. Thanks again.

No, Lumion is only able to render for as long as the Lumion window is active/in focus. They did initially test background rendering in Lumion, but Windows became very slow and unresponsive.

since I am too lazy to check my power options (and I like them to be always on, else I will have to change them everytime I will use or not use Lumion), I just open the Windows Media Player and let it play, endlessly, some relaxing music. I can even turn the volume down. The WMP stays on the background playing music while Lumion renders, and with WMP playing music, Windows DO NOT lock or turn off.

Also make sure that automatic Windows updates are off. Get it to only "notify" you of available updates but if automatic update is on (and you have a live internet connection), you will risk automated rebooting and of course, losing what you've rendered so far. (Well, in a company environment, I guess updates are done centrally anyway)

As for "energy saving" and all that stupidity, I always keep everything off. Screen savers are for old monitors - the current "flat" ones will not burn out if you leave the application on for hours. All those fancy things should be disabled. Never send your computer to sleep while rendering! :D

So in a company environment, ask them this very basic question: Is the computer for us or are we for the computer? and if they want the render done or if rather play with stupid and obsolete screen savers.

Very good tip alright. I think that's what I'm going to do, since our IT guys can't figure out what to do on my computer locking up yet.

Thanks,
