Low Memory Mode

When in low memory mode - some textures get reduced in size and others don't.

What is the max size a texture can be before it triggers it's blurr (reduced resolution) in low memory mode?

Or is it the area that the texture covers that triggers it to go in reduced resolution?
(yeah right   :D )

Of particular interest in creating own textured landscape meshes.

Also when in low memory mode the final movie/image output produced is in low memory mode visually as well.  I thought that low memory mode was just for the build mode and when it output to a movie it allowed it the higher resolution.

Hi Conrad, here's how it works:

Low mem mode on: Textures that are bigger than 1024x1024 pixels are automatically reduced to 512x512 pixels in all modes. There is no override function.

Low mem mode off: If you import a model that uses over 100mb of texture memory, Lumion will cap the maximum texture resolution at 2048x2048 pixels. However, you can bypass this limit by pressing CTRL while you click on the Reload model button. If you apply a Standard or Lightmap material to your imported model, any texture you load will be loaded at whatever resolution your graphics card is capable of displaying (up to a maximum of 16384x16384 pixels).

Thank you Morten.
I know you have answered this somewhere b4.
Sorry to make you repeat it.  Very helpful!
Thank you for your time.

Modelhead and Peterm asked me a similar question, and the first time I replied I actually got it wrong (and had to update the post), so it's a good opportunity to set the record straight in this thread as well :)

You were investigating an issue about it at that time, has that been sorted?

Hi Peter, I basically added a bug report due to the fact that it seemed illogical that any texture that exceeds 1024x1024 pixels is reduced to 512x512 pixels when Enable low memory mode is turned on. I think it would be more consistent if it simply capped all textures at a maximum of 1024x1024 pixels (or just 512x512 if that's more desirable). This issue has not yet been addressed but it's on the bug tracker list.

And here's the original post:
