If the email was there by a system default then that should be fixed, rather than just stopping the complete use of Profiles.
Is it not that in the Profile (Account Settings) screen, users enter what they want to display in their Profile, so if users don't want their email or anything else available then they just don't put it in there. Unless there's some more detailed technical glitch?
It's there for those in this community that may want to network etc, and are prepared to take the risk that they might get some unwarranted emails. If there are bots out there stripping out email addresses, then not much we can do, those that have their email addresses there, probably have it elsewhere (albeit these days more protected), or we can if get hit too much and fed up, simply delete the address from our own Profile info.
