hello,

1. i want to ask, can i make different type of water in lumion??
because everytime i make some water in landscape option i can't change the type of each water object.

for example i want to make an ice type water and i also want to make a dirt type water on another side, but i can't make a difference of those water..
can you explain me how to make a different water type??

or i have to make a plane and import it, so i can edit water type in material editor??

2. one more question, can i input a number in slider especially in ocean option in landscape option??
because when i used that slider, i have a difficulties to set a precise height of ocean level accordance with what i want.

thank you

best regards,

-Danniel Stevanus-

Hi Danniel,

1) You can't replace the water textures of the native Lumion water planes. However, if you import your own plane, you can apply a Water material to it and customize the look (Edit Materials -> Custom -> Water).

2) Check out this thread (Miscellaneous -> Sliders):

I've also tried with Danniel says... The problems with custom geometry-water are:

-There's no nice underwater view
-There are no color presets (Tropical, lake, etc)

to morten :
I've tried the way that you told me and I think it works fine.. but I can't apply the ice material like in the landscape option when i customized it in material editor..

is it any possible way to make an ice material in material editor?? thanks..

to ecuadorian :
you can try to customized it by change the colour like in tropical water type or dirt water type and also you can customized any other factor like foam, scale, etc.

for example if you want to make a tropical water type you can apply the blue colour in water material, or if you want to make a dirt water type you can apply the brown colour.

Sure, I can set my own color and settings... but I just really like the presets.  :-9

to ecuadorian :

i starting to realize why do you prefer the landscape water than water material.. i try to find a differences between them and i find that water material can't give an underwater effect like in landscape water..

i hope that lumion will upgrade the software, so we can use more than one type of landscape water in 1 scene..
right ecuadorian??  ;)

No, this is currently not possible.

or is there any possible way to place some different type of landscape water planes in 1 scenes??

I would recommend using 1 "native" Lumion water plane for the pond that you want to see in an underwater view and then import the rest of the ponds as planes and apply the Water material to them.

No, you would have to make this manually.

1) Search for "ice" at http://www.cgtextures.com/ to find a suitable diffuse texture.

2) Then create a Normal map and a Specular map using Crazy Bump or a similar application.

3) Add the Specular map to the alpha channel of the diffuse texture and save it as a 32-bit texture.

4) Export a plane to Lumion.

5) Import it, Edit Materials -> Custom -> Standard

6) Then add the combined Diffuse + Specular texture to the first texture slot, and the Normalmap to the second. Make sure that the Reflection or clip slider is set to 0, so that Lumion knows that you want it to use the alpha channel as a reflection map (instead of an opacity clip mask).

7) Adjust the sliders to your liking.

hmm Morten, may I know another software beside crazybump that I can get it with free and easy but still can make a normal and specular map to make a material textures??

because when I download crazy bump, it requires a license that must buy it.. :(

I haven't tried any of those either - we have a commercial Crazy Bump license for use with Lumion :)

Remember: The Normal map and Specular map are optional if you want the ice reflections to be more realistic. Maybe you should just try with a single diffuse texture first?
