Hi there,

I am happy about the new stuff added in your last release. Nevertheless I was disappointed regarding the object orientation you have integrated. I thought that it would now be easier to align cars to a street climbing up a hill, but sadly that isn t the case. Objects only orientate to Lumion landscape. At the moment I am still modelling landscape in 3ds Max, because after my opinion it is too difficult to model exact landscape in Lumion, moreover when you have streets and stuff like that modelled in max. So I still hav to rotate all the cars so that they are standing right on the street and in the parking house I am currently modelling.

Do you plan to make that great feature also possible on selfimported objects?object orientation

You are experiencing this because there is no collusion on imported objects.  This is a feature that will probably not be integrated for some time as it changes the complexity of the software, importers, and requires much more in the way of programming then the changes that have been implemented thus far.

I know that there is no collision detection. Nevertheless you can place people and trees on imported objects. So the software checks what is underneath an object. So it could also test in which direction the normal of this face shows to align an object according to the object underneath.

Hi Mischa, the problem is that we're trying to finish Update 1 right now, and every time we add new functionality (instead of just focussing 100% on bug fixing) there will always be a risk that new bugs are introduced. For that reason, Ferry has chosen to make a small improvement that works 100% on the Lumion terrain (as far as I can tell Smile). Having said that, it's pretty obvious that it would vastly increase productivity if the object orientation alignment worked on all objects, so I would not be surprised if you see more improvements of this function at a later stage as this request was already added to the wish list some time ago.

ok I see.

What exactly means update 1? That it wil be Lumion 1.1, or what? Does that mean that there will be no new things in the next release, but that all prevoius functions were tested and work well?

Every time you receive a link to a new release candidate, there is a long list of bug fixes and changes in that email, so you can see for yourself what has changed since v1.0 was released on 31-11-10. All those changes are part of Update 1.

The next test version (i.e. not recommended for production use) will be the upcoming Update 1 Release Candidate 5.

If there are no more issues, we will release Update 1 Final. This means that all major and (hopefully) most minor bugs should have been fixed and that any new features/functionality introduced since 31-11-10 have been tested reasonably thoroughly by us and of course by those of you who are using the test versions (RC1 to RCx).

I should also correct a misunderstanding. Ferry mentioned that there is only Lumion 1, 2, 3 etc. Updates are either small ones or big ones. Big ones are called Service Packs and small ones are called Update X.

The main problem is that it is not possible to position a lot of models at the same time correctly on the slope. So it can't work as well as with the terrain. However one option I can create is that you select a model and then move the mouse over your own model and then press a button and it will slope your object accoodring to the normal under the mouse. If this is something you would want let me know.
