I often hear in the forum from the Lumion staff, that most people who buy Lumion use it for creating movies and so the main changes and efforts go in this direction. I love the engine, so I use it alot for flying around in the scene with the customer in realtime, checking special areas and views and so on. I also use the rendering mode, but not so often, because rendering in max quality or even in stereomode takes often a night to render.

My question now to the Lumion users is, what do you mainly use Lumion for?

Myself, I plan on using it exclusively for movie-making, but I'll only buy it once it has enough powerful features for just that.  And I don't mean movie presentations of buildings, I mean actual movies, with special effects, and a well put together animation system(collision detection, ragdoll physics, animation of individual body parts, down to each finger, etc).

I´m using it first for movie rendering, second for rendering stills and then flying around with customers for marking and correcting mistakes in the model.

But exporting an exe would be very useful for presentations on meetings outside the office.

Right now i use it for video creation, but would utilize it in its real-time state should a client want the prelim walk through.  Most of the time our clients would like a set path for viewing, and a video for marketing and/or publication (YouTube, website embedding).  I agree with Frank, having an EXE would be very useful, i think it is on the wishlist for functionality.

We created the theater mode for fly-troughs. So we love it that people use Lumion to fly around in a model. We have a lot of experience with real-time 3D presentations (Because we sell Quest3D now for 10 years already) and we figured that if we provide executable exporting we would probably need many other features too. Things like a mini map, opening doors, room labels and information displays, menus, things like that. For the v1.0 we decided to focus on creating movies and stills. Interactive presentations are very specialized and not really suitable to send to customers because they need a good PC with a decent 3D card. Movies are easy to pass around and if you want to fly trough the model you can use a dedicated machine with Lumion on it. Executables is something we will take a look at later but if we do it we want to take it much further than just a simple fly-trough. It has to be more like a vivid simulation with info-pop ups, sound and things like that.
