Creating Plastic Material

I have been working on a medium sized apartment development which includes a bin enclosure. I modelled the rubbish bins in Sketchup and when I imported the model into Lumion I was hoping to be able to add some reflection to the plastic using the custom standard material. I wasn't able to do this. I may be doing something wrong.

I created a new coloured material using PixPlant which had a diffuse texture. Is it possible to add a diffuse (refective) layer to the standard colours so that reflection can be applied? This may be a topic for the wish list.

Hi Derekw, you don't need a reflection texture for models like these.

All you need is a diffuse texture with the colour that you want, eg, dark green or bright blue.

The specular highlights on the models reveal that reflections are working, but perhaps you accidentally set the Reflection Falloff slider to the maximum value?

Try deleting the Standard material and adding it again, then set Reflectivity to max and Reflection Falloff to Min. Then adjust both a little at a time, and adjust the Glossiness slider (= reflection blur amount) until you're happy with the way the reflections look.

Thanks Morten, but can I add glossiness or reflection to a Lumion colour? Or do I always need to create a diffuse texture and import the colour with the model?

When I select an imported colour without a diffuse texture using the 'standard' menu it simply turns grey and the colour disappears.

Yeah, the Color material is pretty limited, so at the moment, you have to apply a Standard material and a coloured texture to the model in order to benefit from the reflection options.
