antialiasing in realtime and forum search function

sorry to bother you again, as it definitely was questioned before here ... ( brings me to the search question )

is it possible to have anti aliasing in the realtime viewport ?
i remember quest 3d-executables having anti aliasing. Would this be possible for lumion, too ?

...

i really love this forum, because it is very interesting to learn and share with other users !!
but everytime i search for something i get no results, even if i am sure this topic was discussed before.

a forum withou a functional search-function isnt a very usable one.
so every question will be asked again and again ...
and nothing is to be found easy ...

could this please be changed ?

best regards
stucki

Did you find what you were looking for on anti aliasing?

Couple of weeks back Remko posted that they had amended the search tools on the forum by now including a Google local search in addition to the Forum Search tool.  See attached pics and of course theres the Advanced Search link on that screen.  Anti-alising in the Google search returned about 18 posts but the forum search returned nothing.

thanks peterm

yes i have found the google search function, but i have not found an answer to the anti aliasing question.

i know that quest 3d supports anti aliasing, and if i am right lumion is a branch of quest3d 5 ??
i would really love to have the realtimeview with antialiasing.

is this possible ?

Anti aliassing is not possible in real-time. If we would implement this it would mean Lumion can not run on WindowsXP anymore. At some point the WinXP userbase will get low enough for us to drop support for Windows XP an we can implement real-time AA.

Hi stucki, wondering what your reasons are for realtime AA re your comment

.

Is this just whilst you are building, or is it useful for presentational if you are doing Theatre mode presentation to other people/clients?

Having RT AA would be important if/when Lumion provides a runtime output version so that quality of RT is similar (probably not able to fully match) rendering quality.

and for Remko:  In which case would it not be a matter of providing some developer/builder settings switch to allow AA and level of AA for build mode and any runtime mode rather than just preventing because of XP?  As movie mode rendering already provides one form of AA is it then possible to include access via some settings or is the MLAA just not suitable for any type of realtime usage?

I would expect any AA would have a fairly big impact on framerates and one thing Lumion (and Quest) is good at is realtime performance, however balancing that is the ever present need to increase quality of visuals for end users.

i would love to have it for realtime presentation.
Couldnt it be optional, so users of windows xp still can use lumion and the others would benefit from it ?

The problem is that we need to convert everything to a completely new API if we want to enable antialiasing this API does not work on XP so having a version that works on both versions is not an option. Many games use a driver model so they can talk to multiple API's but this has its problems of its own.
