Mirror Rendering

Hi:

I want to create a curved mirror as well as 2 mirror facing with each other. I checked the posts
http://forum.lumion3d.com/general-discussion/need-help-with-mirror-reflections/
http://forum.lumion3d.com/gallery/the-mirror-function/

And found out at that time it is still a little complicated and awkward to make a mirror. I don't have the latest version of Lumion yet. I want to ask is it possible to create a mirror easily and more real in the latest version which is Lumion 5. If some one can post a video or some screenshots, I think will be very helpful.

And please notice, I am now exploring exporting a nurbs curved surface into lumion to make it as an mirror which can reflect the surroundings. Hope someone can help me with that.

Chris

Hi Chris

It's easy to make flat mirrors now.  Planar reflections were added to Lumion back in v3.

However planar surfaces don't work with curved surfaces.

It's possible to have curved surfaces reflect as mirrors, but you need to use the Reflection Control (Sphere) which uses a world reflection and the resolution up close is not the same as planar.  So may not be suitable to internal curved mirrors.

Two mirrors facing each other as planar reflections will only produce a single reflection depth, so do not expect a real-world multi-reflection.

Which version of Lumion are you using?

Hi Peterm:

Thanks for giving me the information about the reflection problem. It is very helpful for me. I just want to ask a question concerning how to adjust Reflection Control sphere. As you noticed, the reflection always somewhat bigger than the model, can you give me some advice about how to adjust the sphere in order to get the best quality and angle? And by the way, just want to know whether Lumion development group is planning to increase the depth in the future or not.

Thanks very much.

Chris
