Custom Backgrounds

Hi Morten!
Sorry, I couldnt seem to reply to your original thread in the FAQ about this subject. I have a question, in your screen capture "change diffuse image" you appear to have duplicated the mountain scene a few times? Is it possible you can supply that png so I can take a look at it? My backgrounds are coming out a bit nasty/blurry, unless I up the scale which causes further problems (such as duplicates in the sky etc) Cant seem to get them nice and sharp like you did.
Many thanks indeed,
Matt.

Hi Matt, as I mentioned in the original thread, the texture of the mountain range is from cgtextures.com, so I can't attach this texture.

All I did was to mirror+scale down the mountains before saving the texture - I can't quite remember the tile count, but it was either 2 or 4 horizontal tiles.

I've got you, no problems,
Could you tell me the dimensions you used though?
Thanks!  :)

I wish I could, but unfortunately I no longer have the files.

I guess you could try 4096x1024 and 8192x2048 to see what works best for you.

Hi there, the scale is fine now (I used 8192x2048) but despite being pin sharp at 100% in photoshop, they look like this in Lumion!. (Ignoring the fact I didnt cut away the sky for a sec)
I basically created a new document at the above dimensions, duplicated the original mountain scene 4 times along the bottom)

The mountain scene I downloaded from the site was 8000x1285...

UV mapping in your modeling software will be the answer or modifying the texture to "fit" the surface you are trying to apply it too.

Sketch-up user?

Is Settings -> Enable Low memory compatibility turned on by any chance?

If not, simply apply a Standard material to the mountain range model, and load the texture manually.

Here's why:

Low mem mode on: Textures that are bigger than 1024x1024 pixels are automatically reduced to 512x512 pixels. There is no override function.

Low mem mode off: If you import a model that uses over 100mb of texture memory, Lumion will cap the maximum texture resolution at 2048x2048 pixels. However, you can bypass this limit by pressing CTRL while you click on the Reload model button. If you apply a Standard or Lightmap material to your imported model, any texture you load will be loaded at whatever resolution your graphics card is capable of displaying (up to a maximum of 16384x16384 pixels).
