Computer Restart/Crash when rendering

I need help with this and fast.

I love Lumion and love the results..however, a new problem has developed that is driving me insane.

Here is my PC Specs:
Dell T5600 Workstation
32 GB RAM
16 Core Processors
Titan Black Graphics Card
850W power supply

Ever since I upgraded to the Titan Black my computer restarts without warning when I render/animate a project in Lumion.

I have spoken with EVGA and there is no problems there.  I have done some of the diagnostic items that Lumion recommends (delete hidden drives, clean my registry, etc.)  Still having problems.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Hi

The specs look good including suitable power supply.

1.  Does the PC also include the Quadro that you used to render your last project or is it using only the Titan?
2.  If the PC was using the Quadro and that card has been removed, then was the Quadro drivers also fully removed?
3.  Have you have assigned the Titan card for use with Lumion in the NVIDIA Control Panel to manage 3D Settings?
4.  Are the latest drivers for the Titan being used?
5.  Are you able to render one of the Lumion sample scenes, for example Villa?

Please attach your DX_Diag text report from the Benchmark, or use Windows --> Run --> DXDiag.

A graphics card with the latest drivers should never reboot (provided that it's getting enough power).

I addition to what Peter mentioned above, I would recommend running the GPU/Power supply/CPU/Memory tests in OCCT with 'error checking' turned on, just to rule out hardware issues.

Alternatively, try to run FurMark for say, 30 minutes to see if it reboots.

Thanks for the replies!

I am having my computer reimaged at the moment (just to make sure there is no bug causing issues).

I installed the Titan Black on another users PC that is the exact same setup as mine and it works flawlessly with Lumion.  No matter what we threw at it, the PC rendered everything thing has it should.

As soon as I get my PC back I will try the items you suggested.

Thanks!

I'll keep you updated.

OK, that's good news on the other PC.  Hopefully the same on your PC when you get it back.

If it's re-imaged you will need to first check that all NVIDIA drivers are the most recent.

One other occasional problem is some bad RAM, but as you were previously rendering OK with the Quadro, it seems reasonably unlikely.

The other is that changing the hardware for the Titan may have shifted some of the connections, and the Titan card and all plug-in components need to be checked to make sure they are connected correctly.

Ok...I am completely frustrated at this point.

PC has been re-imaged and I am still running into the same issues.

I have ran benchmarking tests for the graphics card and it runs perfect..no issues at all.

All drivers are up to date.

The scene I am building isn't any where as big as some I have done in the past, nor as big as others I have seen on here.

I am at a loss..I have a project that is now days behind.

Hi

Drats, sorry to hear that.  I can empathise with your situation.

More checking required please:
1.  did you use OCCT and also run tests on the RAM and power supply?
2.  is the same crash on render happening or something else now?
3.  can you render a test scene using Lumion examples; first a) Island, b) Villa, and c) Impressions.  These will test different effects and core content and throw up anything common.
4.  there is an outside chance that there is some corrupt data in your scene.  Does it play fully in Movie Preview?

Please attach the DXDiag report as mentioned in earlier post.

Please export the scene as an LS4 and send to us for testing on a different PC: wetransfer.com -> peterm [at] act-3d.com and morten [at] act-3d.com

Thanks for all your help on this Peterm.

I just tried to render the island scene and the PC restarted.

I have ran the DXDiag and there are no reported problems.

My IT department has checked the hardware and the RAM, HD and other components are good.

Another IT guy think a faulty motherboard may be the issue.

I have a Dell Alienware PC coming in later this week as a loaner so we can try it out.  It is equiped with the following:

I7 6 core proccessor
256 GB SSD Hard Drive + 1 TB storage drive
32 GB Ram
dual Geoforce GTX 780 with 6GB of RAM

I am going to load my files on this PC when it arrives and give it a try on this machine.

I think mine is having hardware issues because it still works on an identical PC.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks!

1.  did you use OCCT and also run tests on the RAM and power supply?

There a 99% chance that it's caused by your hardware.

If you can't test the components in OCCT, try to run FurMark for say, 30 minutes.

If the PC reboots, we'll know for sure that it isn't caused by Lumion.

Just ran the FurMark text and my machine is still shutting down.

So...good news is it's not Lumion!

Bad news is..I have a very annoying problem.

Looks like progress (of sorts  :)) is being made to identify the problem,  thanks for the updates.

From what you have found out so far, it seems to point to the Titan card.  These issues were not experienced before you upgraded to the Titan card, and crashing on FurMark confirms it's much more likely the card, than the remaining possible, of the motherboard.

It may simply be that the card needs to be removed and placed back in, possibly on another PCI-e16 slot.

If you are able to swap the card in the loan PC and test than perhaps that will give confirmation as well.

New cards can sometimes, not often, but sometimes be faulty.

Keep us posted, all the best.

Good evening, I hope to help you.

I used to have the same problem with my Workstation. When I using it on full performance, like a rendering or other heavy task, it shutdown without warning.

So, I did the following to resolve the problem:
           - I checked the potential of outlet was enough.
           - I installed it a UPS (voltage regulator and battery) on outlet only for the CPU.

Finally I resolve the problem. Remember that you use more outlet power when you are doing heavy task.

My CPU specification:
 - Asus motherboar - Socket 2011
 - Intel Core i7-3820 to 3.6Ghz (Sandy Bridge E) - Quad Cores , Socket LGA2011, 10MB Smart Cache, TurboBoost 3.8Ghz.
 - MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 4GB GDDR5 256bit
 - 16 GB memory RAM.
 - Power supply Cooler Master 750 W.
 - UPS 750VA/350W
